J. A. Jones Construction |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Today, headquartered in Charlotte, the firm operates regional offices in Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando and Washington, D.C., as well as maintaining offices in strategic locations around the globe. Having built projects of every kind in 50 states and nearly 100 countries, J.A. Jones Construction is consistently ranked among the United States' top contractors by Engineering News Record. My position and responsibilities: Everyday I spent some time walking the site with various project managers. They showed me how the building has progressed since its start. I was able to observe how masons, electricians, plumbers, and other trades installed their material. In addition to this I was in charge of keeping the all of the submitted drawings organized and up to date. We tracked all of these submittals using Expedition and we had to keep a hard copy of every submittal. Also, I helped some project managers write letters to both their sub-contractors and the client. A few times I even went to Project Managers meetings and took the minutes. This internship was especially interesting to me because I was able to see how the theory I have learned in college is practiced in the real world. I also have a much better understanding of how a construction site operates from day to day.
